William Evans b 1829 Anglesey
« on: Sunday 15 March 15 11:36 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for information of the family of William Evans and Ellen Owens, Anglesey. I am searching with clues of information, nothing concrete like the name of a town! I would appreciate any information and/or help, as it may help me to connect the dots.

William Evans was born Anglesey, 1829.
Parents: William Evans, miner and  Ellen/Ellin Owens

He was apparently British Merchant Seaman ? year of apprenticeship

Arrived in Australia in 1850's as ships crew.
Worked within Australian waters for a time before officially emigrating 1858 taking government position ?customs boat Williamstown, Melb.

Married, Geelong, Vic. Children's names (which may be family names) - first born Thomas, second Mary Ellen, (spouse's mother recorded as Mary), William James, Kathrine Elizabeth (spouse Irish lass, Catherine/Kathrine), and Henry.

On his death certificate in 1885, beside the details of his father is a notation, 10/7/83 which may imply the date of his fathers death. (wish I could see how to attach)  there is also a name ?town next to date) ?Arle ?Aile

Hi,

On the 1841 census there is a family which may fit the bill but would probably need further investigation -

At (looks like) Gaerwen Bach Llanfinangel Esceifiog, Anglesey -

W'm Evans - Collier - age 35
Ellin Evans - age 40
Richard Evans age 15 - Collier
Owen Evans - age 14 - Collier
William Evans - age 11
Zadrach Evans - age 9
Mesach Evans - age 9
Thomas Evans - age 6
Evan Evans - age 2
Ellin Evans - age 11 months

Fortunately this census shows W'm Evans occupation so this is some help to try and track them down.

The 1841 census rounded up ages to the nearest 5, but if this is the family it gives you a starting point.

I will look at later censuses to see if I can find this family.

This may be them.

There was a marriage at Newborough, Anglesey in 1822 between William Evans and Ellinor Owen, the details are below.

William Evans of the parish of Llangeinwen married Ellinor Owen otp 8 Apr 1822 at Llanbedr Newborough parish church. Both signed by mark. Witnesses Hugh Peter (by mark) and William Owen.

In the 1841 census (HO107, piece 1360, book 6, folio 7, p1) at Gaerwen Bach, Llanfihangel Esceifiog there is this family (all born Anglesey):
Wm Evans 35 - Collier
Ellin Evans 40
Richard Evans 15 - Collier
Owen Evans 14 - Collier
William Evans 11
Zadrach Evans 9
Mesach Evans 9
Thomas Evans 6
Evan Evans 4
Ellin Evans 11 months

The birth of the youngest child was registered:
Ellen daughter of William Evans and Ellen Owen born 8 Jul 1840, Llanfihangel Ysgeifiog

The children were baptized at Llanfihangel Ysgeifiog, and there seems to have been an older sister, Elizabeth, baptized 11 Jul 1824.
Anglesey - Thomas:
Bodedern, Heneglwys, Llanfair-yn-Neubwll.
Anglesey - Jones:
Llanfaethlu, Llanfair-yn-Neubwll, Rhoscolyn.
Anglesey - Parry:Llanfair-yn-Neubwll.
Anglesey - Lewis:Llanbadrig.
Anglesey - Willins & Tyran/Tyrer

Caernarvonshire - Evans and Lewis:Llanberis.

Denbighshire - Jenkins:Llandynan, Llantysilio, Cerrigydrudion.
Denbighshire - Jones:Rhos, Ruabon.
Denbighshire - Jones:Henllan

Flintshire - Mathews:Northop

Hi,

There appears to be various Evans baptism's on familysearch.org but no parents details shown

The Zadrach Evans shown in the 1841 census is probably Shadrach Evans baptised 16 July 1831 at Llanfihangel Ysgeifiog, Anglesey.

Mesach Evans looks to have been baptised the following day 17 July 1831, Owen Evans 26 Nov 1826. Richard Evans 18 March 1827, Evan Evans 22 Jan 1837

I'll leave you to take a look and see what you think.

Alan, how do I take that information from familysearch and order a certificate? ie is that batch number anything other than a latter day saints filing number?
