William Gore, died 1838, at Battle of Windmill, Ontario - what regiment?
« on: Wednesday 18 March 15 11:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi. I am looking for information on the career of William Gore who died in 1838 at the Battle of the Windmill, near Prescott, Ontario.
He was born sometime after 1796 in Ireland. His wife's name was Hannah.
Particularly looking for what regiment he was in, and if there is any trace of him, wife and children in military records, thanks, Katharine.

Hi Katherine

According to Wiki the British only had one man killed. His service record would not have been kept, as there was no pension involved. What happened to Hannah and any children? As they only introduced a widows pension 60 years later.

You can follow his career month by month using the musters/paylists in the National Archives. They are not online. The first and last entries give the best chance of discovering personal information about him.
