Cole TINGEY 1747 Baptism Ely St. Mary
« on: Tuesday 24 March 15 14:37 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Thank you for helping me  :)

I am looking for the baptism of Cole TINGEY, which I believe took place on 30 August 1747 at Ely St. Mary. Cole's parents (I think) are John TINGEY and Elizabeth ...

Thank you very much.

MaryBC

Welcome to Rootschat, although I see you registered some years ago. It's said that you should lurk for a while before posting on a message board, but 4 1/2 years is a bit excessive!

The baptism is as shown by you, including parents, on the BVRI, which is extracted from parish registers, so is reliable.

David

Thank you for your reiteration.

I will, obviously, have to go another route to get more information.

What "more information" are you hoping to find? In 1747 the names of the parents are just about all you're likely to find.

Cambridgeshire FHS have transcribed the registers for the parish and their copy of the entry is the same as stated, no details of abode, etc.  As BB has said, you are unlikely to get further information at that time anyway.

The only way to be certain no further info is included, which as said is highly unlikely, would be to obtain a printout of the register page from the Cambridgeshire Archives or view a copy of the register on microfilm/fiche yourself either at the Archives or perhaps at an LDS Family History Centre (assuming the latter do have a copy on microfilm .. something I don't know for certain so you would need to check their catalogue).

There is a tree on ancestry that says he was baptised on the date stated, married Mary Lusher in Norfolk in 1768 had 6 children and lived in Norfolk up to his death in 1820

My husband had Tingey ancestors but they all lived in Bedfordshire

Thanks very much for the replies. It could very well be my tree you came across, Jolee. I try to prove what I enter on my tree, wherever I can, with parish register confirmations and various certificates after 1837, and census details. For a few years, when I was new at genealogy, I had linked onto the wrong family back to Bedfordshire. There may well be a link, but have not got anywhere near finding that out and probably never will.

I did, at one time, have the Parish Records for Ely St. Mary, but the CD packed up on me and I really have no idea (until I get another or download what is available online from the CFHS) whether I missed anything related to the family. I know that Cole's parents are there (John TINGEY and Elizabeth...). When I do a search on the CFHS page, I do not find Cole born 1747 on any of their records. I do, however, have information from the Norfolk FHS, showing that he moved to Stoke Ferry and had children there. And have various records to prove this.

I have been onto the Cambridgeshire Archives site and might go that route with a print out from the parish records. Did this once before with my 3d great grandfather.

Thanks again for the help.

Thanks very much Trish.

I have records typed out for the villages of Wereham, Stoke Ferry and Wretton (from the NFHS, all the villages being within a few miles of each other and where the Tingey families lived) and can find no reference for a birth of John in the 1700s (except one who died), so perhaps what you have mentioned about John Tingey and Elizabeth Warfe is correct. I have gone wrong before, so am definitely prepared to listen to all suggestions.

I will have to seek out the records of Ely St Mary and see if they don't appear there after 1747!

Mary
