Looking at the actual death register for that quarter there is no John Howe, there is a Thomas Howe who died in that quarter in West Ham. It appears to have been incorrectly transcribed on FreeBMD and subsequently other genealogy sites.

Well spotted Mark - on image the name is very clearly Thomas

There is probate for a John Howe who died 13 Nov 1859 Middlesex widow Mary Ann???

Who was "your" John married to and where was he living 1851?

Sue

I tried to go down the 1851 census route, difficult with out a rough age.

Thankyou to both of you for your help.

My relative is William John Howe  married to a Sarah Ann.

He was married in 1847. (West Ham)  father Joseph Howe (from marriage cert)

1851 census she is a  "fisherman's wife"   - living in Barking  -  so he must have been at sea
1861 census she is a widow   -living in Barking - last child christened 6/4/1859 when he appears to be alive

I have been unable to trace his death and have no way of knowing when or where he was born.

I was hoping the "John" Howe was him!

Thankyou again.

Thankyou Mark,

That sounds really promising - I hadn't realised how near Poplar is to Barking/West Ham- and the date would be right.

Looking on Family Search Howe is a common name there - so I will start looking,

Thankyou for all your help,

Rob

Where did you find William's name as William John??

He married as William
Oldest and youngest children's baptisms name father as William

One tree on a******y has William John Howe marrying Sarah A Moore in 1847 W Ham - this couple can be found on later census
I think this William John Howe married Sarah Clapham in 1844

to add further complications there is in 1861 a Sarah Howe b Norwich married  living in Barking no husband with her but described as fisherman's wife
"Your" Sarah A in 1861 was described as "Charwoman"
if I have that correct??

daughter named as "Ann" in 1861 -was she baptised as Amy Mary Ann Howe? Then named as Jones in 1871 when Sarah Ann had remarried?

Daughter Sarah  has middle name of Wakeling? Where did this name come from - might it be related to William's family??

What was William's father's occ on marriage cert? and who were witnesses?
Just trying to narrow down William's age/baptism
