(Rev) Henry Forrester Holmes
« on: Wednesday 01 April 15 11:52 BST (UK) »
Does anybody know anything about Rev Holmes and his family? He was born in Liverpool, England, in 1847 and died in Exeter, England, in 1919. He spent some time in Canada. His parents were John Holmes and Mary Ann Bayley.

I'm intrigued by his middle name, Forrester, and whether that means a connection with a Forrester family.

Hi Jimson

In some clergy families, I have come across middle names that were not family names connected by blood but names of other clergy who were close friends, colleagues or mentors of the father and possibly godfather to the child. If you follow the career of your man you may find a Forrester clergyman in the picture at some point.

Not just clergy, Venelow!

In my family are several generations of Veterinary Surgeons.
The Baker family and the Garrad family were closely linked - to that point that there are to be found Garrad Baker and Baker Garrad, as well as both names used as middle names!
