Hi
Been hunting around for these two's marriage for a while.
He was born 1783 Woodham Ferrers and died 1830.
She was born 1784 (got this from death record) and died 1858 in Cock Clarksville near Purleigh. She was living in Woodham Ferrers in 1841 and Purleigh in 1851.
Their first child, Ann was baptised in 1805 in Woodham Ferrers. Last child (that I have found!) John 1824 Woodham Ferrers.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

I don't have access to the ERO site at the moment so unable to search the PRs, but it may help to know that "Cock Clarksville" is actually "Cock Clarks" today, and as far as I know it always was.

I'm not sure if it was a village or a hamlet, but I don't think there is/was a church; I would think Purleigh is the nearest. Of course Elizabeth may have been born (and married) elsewhere.

Sorry I can't be more helpful,

Mike.

Hi. Thanks for the info. I do have access to SEAX/ero records. I just can't see anything. Sometimes people have seen something that I have missed. Was just hoping someone might see something I've overlooked.

The 1851 gives her place of birth as Woodham Ferrers. Have you tried Bicknacre, which is close by?

Unfortunately my SEAX sub has expired after several months of browsing hundreds of pages of PRs til I was cross-eyed  :-\  It really is an excellent site.

Hi Mike
Agreed about SEAX! 😳
There is no Bicknacre unfortunately. It must have been part of another parish.
Thanks though.

Still hunting for this marriage. Wondered if anyone has any ideas? It must have been around 1800ish. There should be records around I would have thought. It's not that long ago in the grand scale of parish records.
Would love to find this one, so that I can trace Elizabeth's ancestors.
Thanks 😊

Not sure if you are aware that on the shelves at the Essex Records Office there are a set of books entitled Boyd's Marriage Index, I'm not sure what years are covered but I have a feeling at least the early 1800s would be.

Perhaps someone able to go into the ERO could check for the marriage for you in that index, at least it would give the year, the parish and the Bride's maiden name.

If only they were online what a Godsend it would be.  :'(  ;D
Concentrating currently on:
Essex: Card, Harris, Stowell, Theobald/Tibbles & Turner.
Norfolk: Beale, Cork & Dalton.
Yorkshire: Oswald Sturdy birth/baptism c1708, Oswald where the devil are you?

Findem, Boyd's Marriage Index has been online since about 2003/2004.  Originally hosted on behalf othe Society of Genealogists (who own it) on Origins.net (which was taken over by FindMyPast last year), the SOG moved it to FindMyPast in about 2011.  Its searchable here - http://www.rootschat.com/links/01fhh/ - for anyone with a subscription or pay per view credits.  It is also viewable on the SOG website's Members Area.

That said, it isn't particularly good post 1700 for any county, and coverage for Essex is patchy from my experience anyway.  Coverage is best for Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Norfolk, but not complete even up to 1700 for these counties.  The reason the SOG own the Index is because it was created by one of their founding members, Percival Boyd.  It is, though, a useful resource.

There is no marriage for a Matthew and Elizabeth Cooper at around the correct time on Boyd's, I've had a look.

Nannyj, your profile doesn't say where you live, but if you are in the UK, you might want to consider paying for a search on Jack Baxter's Essex Marriage Index which I believe is pretty much complete from 1754 to 1837, excluding entries that are on Boyd's for that time period.  Mr Baxter is no longer running the service, but details of the search service are here - http://www.sturnidae.com/Essex/MarBur.htm.  It used to cost a £1 per marriage, but there are no details on the webpage now, you have to contact the new hoster for details.  According to the Dec 2014 edition of the Essex Family Historian (ESFH journal) the cost at the point was the same.  Hopefully, its not gone up since then. :-X  Even if you aren't in the UK, its worth an email to ask as they may now have different payment arrangements, it used to be a sterling cheque or similar.
