William Davey's Illegible occupation 1851 census
« on: Friday 03 April 15 15:42 BST (UK) »
Is anybody able to decipher what William Davey's occupation is on this extract from the 1951 census? He is a Servant working for Frederick Dawkins, Cook & Confectioner, but I can't figure out what his role says at all...

Is the first letter a P or S? I assume the second word is a " for Ditto, so perhaps something Keeper as per the person above.

Thanks for any suggestions

Chris

I beg to differ!  I don't think it says "Maker" on the line above, I think it says "Keeper".

How about (very tentatively) Pantry Keeper?   :-\
Perrins - Manchester and Staffs
Honan - Manchester and Ireland
Hogg - Manchester 19 cent
Anderson - Newcastle mid 19 cent
Boullen - London then Carlisle then Manchester
Comer - Manchester and Galway

Thanks all for suggestions so far. It's probably related to the kitchen somehow as he got a job as a Cook for the Navy in 1854... He certainly would have learnt the trade from Frederick Dawkins in the interim anyhow. And he worked as a Confectioner in Paddington after returning from his Navy service.

I think it says Porter. Not sure about the ditto mark, but it might be meant to imply that he was working for Frederick Dawkins rather than anyone else.
