BL* in the Rochester District Poll Book for 1865 ???
« on: Thursday 16 April 15 15:39 BST (UK) »
I found "BL*", instead of an entry number, against several names in the Rochester District Poll Book for 1865 on Ancestry.   Please does anyone know what it might stand for?

Many thanks.

Jut a guess, but it could be a reference to the "British Library".

Can you give a link to the entry in the Poll Book?

Sorry, I don't know how to add a link!   I tried copying it and it was about six lines long - that didn't seem right.   The Poll Books are in the London Metropolitan Archives.   I hope I have attached a copy of the page.

Tu* is Tunbridge, Gr* is Gravesend, Ma* is Maidstone, T.W.* is Tunbridge Wells, and Da* is Dartford, but Bl* does not have a consistent place.

Thank you, maybe something will spring to mind now that I know what the other abbreviations mean.   It's a pity no-one thought to put a key at the front or back of the book.

Just a thought?

Is it not the initials of the Candidates for election, so that a record is kept of who voted?

Just realised I was looking at the wrong part of the form! Sorry! ;D

The people on this page (Charles Addington Hanbury, Isaac James) who were marked Bl* also appear in the book for Blackheath district.
