I have a Susan who married James Milam in Crookham Cum Ewshott, Hampshire on 27 Dec 1846. Their daughter in South Africa was called Kezia.

Crondall was in the Hartley Wintney Registration District

Both Susan and Susanna Stevens married in that RD and both on different dates in December 1846

FS show both marriages as  Crookham Cum Ewshott

mmm that is very interesting, I would very much doubt that my Susan who married Milan and the Susan, daughter of Thomas and Kezia are not the same person as I can see no other possible reason for her naming her daughter Kezia?

Does that census list any of Grinham's children?

The person you refer to as Susan was baptised Susanna as per FS entry.  If the person you are researching is definitely the one who married James Milan then you really need to buy a copy of her marriage cert to find her fathers name

The 1841 has 2 entries for a Susan Stevens but the one living in Crondall is aged 14 and was the daughter of James and Elizabeth who also have a 2mth old daughter called Kezia

In 1841 - Susanna is as shown in Keyboards reply

Ah thank you, I will order her certificate then :) For if the other family has a Kezia then she can just as well be that Susan as well.

I think that marriage cert will show her father as James.

However - I won't complicate things by posting 1841 details of Susan (parents James & Elizabeth) just yet.  Let's wait and see what the marriage cert says as there was another Susan Stevens of the same age but not in Crondall

It appears that you would be right about James and Elizabeth. Susan and James appear to have had a number of children that share names with the children of James and Elizabeth, including Elijah.

It's quite possible that James & Thomas were brothers.  If so Susan and Susanna were cousins
