Winifred Coyle or Coyne
« on: Saturday 18 April 15 17:16 BST (UK) »
I'd be grateful for any information about the early life and family of my great grandmother Winifred Coyle or Coyne, born in Galway around 1847.
Her mother's name was Barbara Lacey and according to her marriage certificate her father was Daniel Coyne, a road surfaceman (though according to her death certificate his name was Michael Coyne and he was a farmer).
Winifred married my great grandfather John Archibald in Glasgow in 1869.

It appears Irish Records struggled to find Winifred Coyne or her parents Michael Coyne and Barbara Lacey, or indeed her uncle William Burke, to facilitate her pension application in Scotland back in 1916:

Unfortunately, Griffith's Valuation has quite a few entries for Michael Coyne and William Burke in that area of County Galway, publication date for the area was 1855/6.

Thanks, gaffy! Yesterday was the first time I had used RootsChat and I'm blown way to get a reply so soon. I've been searching for information for quite a while now and had tried familysearch on more than one occasion with the details I posted here, but with no luck. What did I miss?

I noticed on the application the address is given as LGB, Edinburgh. Can you tell me what LGB stands for? Also, how do I access Griffith's Valuation? Thanks!

LGB probably refers to the (then) central pension authority, the Local Government Board (for Scotland).

Here is the link to Griffith's Valuation:

What is this for 2 pounds? Are they selling the same information that is free at Familysearch?

Hello whiteout7! Thanks for the information. Sorry I don't understand your reference to 2 pounds. Is IG Irish Genealogy? How do you access that?
