I'd like to find out if my grandfathers siblings managed to escape from poverty when they left Scotland and how many cousins my father actually had ;
in 1923 Agnes b1885 who married JAMES ROBERTSON travelled with son James Robertson aged 3
and her siblings James aged 22 tinsmith+ Chrissy Macdermid aged 16 umbrella maker .
James married Sarah Ross in 1925 Brooklyn
they had at least 2 children James Kyle MacDermid 1930 d 1977
Chrissy 1907-1992 married John H Kelley b1906 also left Scotland 1923
they also had at least 2 children born in the 1930's
Their contact in USA was a cousin or uncle John mcfarlane
youngest brother John b1910 travelled in1929
passage paid by his brother so presumably James had got a good job
he died in 1982 aged71 but i don't know if he married or had children .
Any help appreciated
youngest brother John b1910 travelled 6years later

Sadly that looks like he did
James Macdermid - 29 January 1930 passed away July 1977 - Last Benefit 07480, West Milford, Passaic, New Jersey.
Have you tried the Passaic Public Library to see if they can find an obituary for James ?
