In the 1851 census the occupation of my William Carolan, born in Ireland in 1825, has been transcribed as "carpeted shoemaker", but I can't actually read the word, so don't know if it is correct. Has anyone heard of the word "carpeted" and knows what it may mean?
Thanks.
