Problems with teletext on Philips HDTP8530 DTR DVR
« on: Monday 18 May 15 11:31 BST (UK) »
Recently purchased new TV and new DTR. Everything working well except occasionally have problems getting the teletext up.  Some days it works fine and others not so. The TV is set up to work through the DTR  and everything else is okay.  What I am wondering is if it could be something to do with getting the 'correct signal'.  Cannot see how it can be the DTR at fault as it does work fine at times.  Any thoughts or advise please.

I had to look up what DTR meant I must confess. (I've been calling our box a Digital Video Recorder, I'm not too sure why now!)

When you mean teletext, do you mean "red button" kind of things?

Or is the subtitle things?

I know that subtitles work on our box even on a recorded program.

The "red-button" type services won't work if the program is recorded, or if it's been paused at all I don't think.

That might be why it works sometimes, and the times it doesn't work is that you're not quite watching live TV because you paused it at some point to let the cat out or something.

If it's a new TV, you should also be able to use the teletext-type things on that too.

Telextext  is where you can get up on screen as menu list of news and information on demand at any time.  It appears on right hand side of screen.  You can choose weather in your area, share prices, travel info. etc.

What you are referring to is the BBC red button service, on my TV it is not available on the HD channels. If it is available you should see a red button in the top right corner of the screen.

Thanks Stan.  I think I was misleading by calling it teletext, but it is the text button you have to press.  Will give your suggestion a try when OH returns and will report back.

Ann,

Did you miss this bit?

Yes have only been trying while watching 'live' tv.
Checked and tried both HD and not, still not working. Then switched everything off at wall and back on.  Worked this time using BBC2 and channel 130.

I'm guessing you've using a Humax box (because you called it a DTR).

If that's the case Press the stop button (square symbol) when you are watching TV to make it 'live' - just in case it has been paused for a second previously.
