I am looking for more information on Alford/Alfred Axford, married to Esther Lush 24 Jul 1815, Westbury, Wiltshire, England. He died in 1822 and was buried 3 April 1822 in Chapmanslade, Wiltshire, England. Esther was born in 1780 and was baptized 23 Jan 1780 Westbury, Wiltshire, England. Her parents were listed as William and Sarah Lush. William Lush married Sarah Isley 23 Sep 1770 in Westbury. In the 1841 Census for Trowbridge, Esther is listed with son Matthew (1816 - 1866) and daughter Sarah (born 1820). Matthew is my husband's 3rd great grandfather. Matthew was baptized 30 Jun 1816 Westbury, Wiltshire, England with his parents listed as Alford and Esther Axford. Matthew married Elizabeth Silcox 7 Aug 1842 Saint James, Trowbridge, Wilts. His father was listed as Alfred Axford and hers as Edward Silcox. Sarah Axford, Matthew's sister, was christened 19 Mar 1820 Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England with parents listed as Alfred and Hester Axford. Matthew and Elizabeth had a daughter Ellen who was born 1860, Melksham, Wiltshire, England and died 1863 Melksham, Wiltshire, England. Ellen was listed in the 1861 Census with her family in Trowbridge.

Where in Chapmanslade is Alfred buried? Is he buried with family members? Who are his parents? Did he have any siblings? What happened to Esther? Maybe Esther died 1858, Melksham, Wiltshire, England. Any more on William and Sarah Isley Lush's family would be appreciated. What happened to Sarah? Did Alfred and Esther have anymore children? Where is Ellen buried?

Thanks,
Ellen

Hi Ellen

Welcome to rootschat  :)

Have you seen the Westbury burial for an Alfred Axford 26 February 1825 age 71.  Could it be your Alfred after a second marriage to Esther.  :-\

No, I have not. Thanks. This could be him. But then, who is the Alfred buried 1822 in Chapmanslade? All I know is he was deceased by 1841.

The banns for the marriage to Esther says Alford is a bachelor so I think we can discount my previous suggestion :)

24 July 1815

Thanks. Maybe the other Alfred is his father.

He could well be.   I think the 1858 death could be your Esther/Hester.

There is another Esther Axford in Market Lavington about the same age but she is still alive in 1861.
