I think it IS a Catholic Church. The mouldings along the top ( looking like a strippers tassell  8) ) are similar to some American Catholic Churches as well as the Brixton one I posted.

I don't think this would be a great idea as an architectural search term dg  ;D ;D

Nope it isn't.

Not one church in the first 1000 ...but Ratzenberg turned up  :o

What is the white thing to the right of the church - my mind is reading it as a flag pole attached to the church with a thin piece of wire, but I wouldn't have thought that was correct because surely it is too low?

Spidermonkey,
I think it is a building which faces the church front on the other side of the road from the church

Not sure that we are looking at the same thing  :-\ - in the alleyway next to the right of the church is a diagonal white pole-type-thing.  I think it has a thin wire attaching it to the church?

I was convinced at one point that the roof edge of a buttress on the left was a pair of compasses.

I blame searching for the cross on that chapel.

I was just wondering about that cross on the roof - would it be at the back of the church?

Is that strange pattern on the windows some sort of steel mesh to protect the stained glass windows?

I think this confirms that most of the stained glass windows are covered with a substantial wire mesh. This is our local parish church this morning. The newer, larger patterned stained glass is similarly covered and looks much the same as the group of four windows in the tower (as groom suggests).
