Bishop Monkton PRs
« on: Tuesday 26 May 15 21:54 BST (UK) »
There are records from Bishop Monkton online but does anyone know how far back the registers go? I am trying to locate the baptism of John West who was born about 1794 but I've had little success so far.

Thanks

Hi Betty,

The Bishop Monkton are online as you say but are only avaliable back to 1852.

I think the answer is that as Bishop Monckton was a chapelry of Ripon the entry is in Ripon's entries.

Looking at Ripon's entries seems to confirm this

West 1793/02/03 c West John s Wm jun Bp Monckton
West 1796/08/21 c West Joseph s Wm jun Bp Monckton
West 1797/01/11 b West Joseph s Wm from Bishop Monckton

(I gave you Joseph as well as he was a close brother to John albeit dying young)
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

Thank you so much, David! You've no idea how long I've been searching for John and his family!
