If you are looking for McTurk deaths on Scotlands People, I suggest you type in MCTURK (all capital letters) leaving the christian name blank on Scotlands People. I think when you type McTurk with a small c for Mac, it catches the computer out. I seemed to get better results typing in MCTURK when searching for deaths. ...Instead of male or female, I put "Both". ...Thirty six McTurk deaths come up for the period between 1849 and 1890, all spelt with capital letters. On the old parish records (Pre 1849), I saw six McTurk deaths.
Suggest also that you try a google for... "Dumfries & Galloway Graveyard Inscriptions" ...When the page comes up, click on it then scroll right down to the foot of the list of all the graveyards in Dumfriesshire. At the foot, you will see Tynron Church. There, you will find a Thomas McTurk, who it says died at Kirkland (which is near Tinwald church). I think this may be your Thomas, but I could be wrong. I think McTurk was only up at Kirkland because there was work at the quarry in that area.
Also, I have a booklet which gives the following information:
(1)Died 1833 Dumfries - James McTurk of Stenhouse Cottage.
(2)Married 1858 St James, Melbourne - John H Burr of New York to Helen Hannah McTurk, only daughter of the late John McTurk of Dumfriesshire.
(3)Marriage 1835 - Stenhouse - R Watt, ironmonger of Dumfries to Mary McTurk, second daughter of the late James McTurk of Stenhouse.
(4) Died 1 Feb 1834 - Kirkland of Kirkmichael by Dumfries - Thomas McTurk.
This 4th entry here for Thomas McTurk is the same Thomas who I have mentioned in the second paragraph in this post. Reason I think it may be your Thomas is that it says he was living at Kirkland when he died. You see, Kirkland is at Tinwald, which is just along the road from Locharbriggs. I hope I am not taking you off on a wild goose chase with much of this information, but McTurk isn't too common a name and I am thinking that the majority of them might all be related to one another.
