Hunt family, Pawlett
« on: Wednesday 21 July 04 00:10 BST (UK) »
Hi, all.

I am currently held up over Thomas HUNT, born Bridgwater 1807, married Mary ROGERS, 5th Dec 1830 in Huntspill.
In 1851 (census) they were living at Pawlett.

I have been unable from the many transcriptions etc on the web to find a record of Thomas' baptism, or any clues as to his parentage.
He was a shoemaker when he married, a cordwainer at the time of the 1851 census, but as none of his seemed to follow the trade, it's not too likely this was the occupation of his father.

Can anyone offer a suggestion as to where I might learn more info.

Would anyone perhaps have access to either 1861 or 1871 censuses for the area and be prepared to look them up for me.
I have access to 1881, and there is no sign of either, so I assume they had passed by then.
The children they had in 1851 were:
Ann, b. Bridgwater 1838
Eli, b. Pawlett 1842
Harriet, b. Pawlett 1845
Alfred, b. Pawlett 1846
Francis(Frank) b. Pawlett 1849
John, b. Huntspill 1852

Thanks,

Tonia.

Hi.
I'm sorry it's taken me so long to reply, I had totally forgotten I'd posted here!

Thank you so much for that, Bev.

That would definitely be my man, I should think.
Everything matches up ok, any way!

Now I shall widen my search for the others.

Those I can account for in '81 are in Bristol, Burnham and Willand, Devon, so there's a pretty wide area for me to search for them!

Thanks again,
Tonia.

Hi Bev,

I noticed in a response to Tonia that you had found an Alfred Hunt in Turnpike.  I wondered if you might have found any other Alfreds; perhaps one that married Mary Paul in 1858 or 9?

Thanks,

RonL
