Where is John A Welsh
« on: Friday 17 July 15 01:55 BST (UK) »
Hi
this is my first posting to USA rootschat so am on a learning curve!

I am attempting to find proof of parents  to I ensure I am following the correct branch of our family tree.
I am trying to tie John A Welsh born 1 May 1875 at Perth Ontario Canada to parents John Welsh and Mary Yeates Forrest who both emigrated from Scotland and lived their lives out in Ontario.

I am picking that the A in his name stands for Alexander - perhaps I shouldn't assume though but it is a strong family name!
I think he married a lady called Kathleen Lavernge Stokes (but not sure if this happened in Canada or USA) and they had 2 children Dorothy Ruth Welsh and Robert Forrest Welsh.  It is on this later name that I am pining my hopes of accuracy as Robert is a very strong family name on the Welsh surname side, and I assume the name Forrest came from his grandmother.

Hope someone can help head me in the right direction - a death record for John A Welsh seems elusive to me.

Thanks for your thoughts  :)

Do you think this could be the family in 1920?

Oh thank you so much  :) - I now have the proof I need to add this branch to my family.  I was focusing on finding a death record for John to give me proof of his parents and therefore his wife and did not think about a marriage record.  I am still trying to find all the corners and boxes in Family Search and seem to miss a lot.  Will now look to find their death records.
Not sure if you can answer this question, but I note he does have a WW 1 draft registration card - does this mean he embarked or was registered if required.
Again thank you for your help

All men of the right age group were required to register for the WWI draft but it doesn't necessarily mean that he served in the army.

Hi
thanks for your help today, I have found more information than I could have hoped for, and also learnt about some new resources.  Off to write it up now and then find out what happened to his siblings
Cheers :D

Dorothy & Robert seem to be living with their uncle & aunt in the 1925 New York state census - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KS4Y-HWZ and 1930 census - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X78T-DMT

There are entries for John A. and Kathleen Welsh in the Bayonne Times death index from 1921 - http://www.hudsoncountynjgenealogy.org/databases/db-btdn/bt-1921.html
