Looking for parents, siblings of Michael Cody born 1879 married Annie McNally at St. Joseph's in Carrickmacross, June 1906.  Michael's home is listed as Lurgans.  When Michael arrived at Ellis Island in September, 1906 he listed his occupation as saddler.  Any information about the Cody family will be appreciated.

Hello puck2u,

A belated welcome to RootsChat.

There was one Cody listed in the 1858-60 extracts of Griffiths Valuations for Co. Monaghan which are on John Hayes failteromhat.com website. There were quite a number in other counties in Ireland.

Garrett Cody, Derrylavan, Magheross. Monaghan

Thank you.  Also found a Cody Family in Lurgans 1901 census but no names match.  LDS has a Cody Family in an earlier document with correct children's names but cannot match them.  I suspect Michael lived/worked on the Shirely Estate but cannot find proof.  Again tanks.

The names of the managers of a couple of Monaghan estates are mentioned on a page relating to Whitework and Lace ... it's on a fine needlework supplies company's website. Tristram Kennedy was the manager of the Carrickmacross estate of the Marquis of Bath and Captain Morant was the manager of the Shirley Estate as the Shirley family were absentee landlords. The Public Record Office, Balmoral Avenue, Belfast holds The Blayney of Castleblayney Papers. PRONI also hold The Shirley Papers which comprise c.20,000 volumes and documents relating to the estate and local political affairs of the Shirley family of Lough Fea, Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan (and Ettington Park, Stratford-upon Avon, Warwickshire). The greatest concentration of the Shirley archive is in the century between 1830 and 1930

1843-5 Assisted Emigration from Shirley Estate  Clogher Record 14 (2) 1992. The Clogher Record in published annually in February by the Clogher Historical Society.

The National Archives in Dublin hold some National School Roll Books and Registers received via the Department of Education - Monaghan.

Garrett Cody of Derrylavan rented his property from William P. Lane and not from Evelyn Philip Shirley.
