Foulks Bapt ?
« on: Saturday 01 August 15 20:22 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm hoping for some advice /suggestions on this baptism please? Does this look like the child Ann is called Foulks? The father's surname is Carisiton?? The transcript gives the child's name as Foulks (same as wife's former name).
Does this suggest she has been adopted and re-baptised as she was from a different parish? Is that something that happens?

Thanks

All the baptisms on the page you posted appear to have the same format. They list the father and mother with her maiden name -so Anne's surname appears to be wrongly transcribed as Foulks and should be  Carisiton.

Thanks Kay. I thought that might be the disappointing conclusion.

I think maybe the transcriber couldn't decipher his name! I don't think it's Carisiton

If you try searching Wrexham parish for children born 1790 - 1815 with parents Thos and Jane there are a number of Foulks and C(K)arrin(g)ton possibilities

Hi

Thanks Kay. I was looking for an Ann(e) Foulk(e)s b c1805 +/- 10 who was married to John Williams- probably about 1827. I had hoped the mistranscribed record for a bapt in 1802 was hers as it fits better than any others I can see.

They lived in Bersham at that point and later in Esclusham Above
(3 children Jane/William/Moses all bapt at Wern Chapel)

What site were you using to search Wrexham parish only please?

I searched on the Denbighshire Baptisms on FindMyPast and you can specify a parish.   Have you found Ann's birthplace in any census??

Thanks. I haven't been able to whittle it down to Wrexham within the Denbigh bapts? Which field are you adding Wrexham to please?

I haven't found Anne anywhere other than recorded in the baptisms of Jane/William/Moses as their mother and other than the baptisms being at Wern Chapel I have no other firm information.

There is a possible baptism for John Williams 13 Aug 1804 in Bersham Wrexham

Eldest child Jane's place of residence at bapt was given as Bersham. The next two bapts had an address on a farm on top of Rhos Mountain and Moses subsequently lived in Esclusham Below and Ruabon so I have focussed my searches in Wrexham/Bersham/Ruabon mostly

I haven't been able to find any of them on the remains of the 1841 and with nothing else to go on except names and baptisms I have been unable to find anything of Anne, husband John or children Jane or William Williams after the baptisms. Fortunately Moses was a bit easier because of his name!

Any other suggestions gratefully received

On FindMyPast on the search tab select A-Z of Record Sets then in the search box start typing Denbigh which will reduce the list to just the Denbigh records.   If you select the births you can also search by parish as well as parents names.   I see that the 1841 census is missing for the area!!
