death record and headstone
« on: Saturday 08 August 15 10:34 BST (UK) »
Hi
I have found this record of a possible family member who seems to be sharing a plot very close to my relatives John Welsh (died1913 and his wife Mary Welsh (died 1931) and their infant son George.  I have their certificates of death registration but cannot seem to pull up Roberts anywhere.  I believe he may be a brother of John but would like to check this record before submitting it in my tree.
Is anyone able to head me in the right direction?
Also if anyone is strolling through the cemetery in the direction of the burial site, I would love to see if there is a headstone.  I am just a bit far down-under to visit Canada  at present :(

Robert Welsh
Interment Date   1883-03-30
Cemetery   Avondale Cemetery
Section   F
Row   -
Lot   040
SubLot   4

Thanks for your time
Pauline

Avondale Cemetery Stratford Ontario.

Previous thread mentions the family

IF nothing materializes on here. Have you thought of creating a memorial on FIND A GRAVE ?

How to create a memorial at Find A Grave.

You could join Find A Grave (free) and create a memorial page for Robert Welsh at Avondale Cemetery and then request a photograph - its explained here -  How to submit a photo request.  Hope this helps.

I checked the death registrations for Stratford for March 1883 and came up with a blank; however, in the 1881 census, there is a Robert Welsh in Stratford, aged 17, born Scotland, living with John & Mary.  There are younger children in the household, but also another teenager, Elizabeth, aged 15, so it is possible that Robert is John's son from a first marriage, or he may be a nephew. Unfortunately, the 1881 census doesn't list relationships.

Thanks for all your replies.  I will follow up with Find a Grave.  The cemetery is Avalon Stratford Ontario.
Yes the 1881 census for Robert and Elizabeth are the same family, they are the youngest brother & sister of John Welsh. I assume they came out to Canada to live with big brother  John and his family after the death of their mother (the father died previously).
I am at a complete loss as to what happened to Robert (born 1862 Scotland) and Elizabeth(born 1866 Scotland) after this 1881 census and can only assume the cemetery reference below is for Robert which is why I would really like to cross reference with a death certificate to prove his parentage.
Any more thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Unfortunately, even if there was a death record for Robert in 1883, it would not name the parents as that information was not recorded in that timeframe.

I found a passenger record for a Robert and Eliza coming to Canada in September 1877 aboard the Manitoban, bound for Stratford. Ages are not given; marked with an "a" while adults have ages given.  I'm not entirely sure what that stands for.  Also with them is a James Welsh.  All are noted as single.

What were your John's parents' names?
