Where is Martha in 1841?
« on: Saturday 15 August 15 19:55 BST (UK) »
I have this lady on a prisoner's petition as a Matron and a witness in 1842.  This would be a prison in either Lancashire or London (Millbank) after some research today I think it is at Lancaster Castle/Prison but I could be wrong.    :o  I would imagine this to be a lady in her 40's or maybe even 50's and I believe this was a responsible job for which the lady had to be single and of course a clean living soul.  I read this signature as Martha Cowdray but try as I might I cannot find her in the 1841 census.  Can you?  I just need to find her in the census to confirm some things.

(I don't know how to post in an all of England message so have chosen Lancashire as most probable)

Have you got access to any other petitions to see if she has witnessed any of them?

This could be that 1841 census Martha, and Salford is some distance from Lancaster.

Deaths December quarter  1847
Martha Cowdroy    Salford    20   934
