Netherbury

In 1841 my ancestors were living in Yondover Road, Netherbury. William Bartlett, Mary Bartlett-his wife-children Elizabeth 16, Mary 14 and Sarah 8. I am trying to find the marriage for William and Mary around 1825 ish. On DorsetOPC the 1841 census does not give William's place of birth, and the 1851 census is not on there for Netherbury. I have details of Elizabeth's marriage to Henry Dyke, but have not managed to find Mary after 1841. Sarah is on the 1851 as a lodger working as a servant for a local farmer and his family, and she is a witness at her sister Elizabeth's marriage.

All of the family were born in County - Williams occ Army O

1851 has a William Bartlett in Netherbury living on his own age 59  Widower bn Netherbury
occ Labourer Chelsea Pensioner which would fit in with Army occ in 1841

I hate to say it but I think the 1841 census is wrong and the mother's name should be Martha.
If you look at the baptisms of the children,no William and Mary but William and Martha.

William Bartlett and Martha Whittle witnesses Henry Bartlett and Mary Strong.

It looks like Henry was a brother marrying Elizabeth Whittle 15.4.1821 at Allington witneses Martha Whittle and Robert Macey

As for military stuff FindMyPast has a William Bartlett born 1793 signing up 1812 at Marshwood
Ancestry have a William from Cramburn  age 16 25.8.1806 going to fight in Canada.

Daughter Mary has married between 1841 and 1851 at Netherbury 6.6.1847
William Davis 23 Netherbury s of Samuel labourer
Mary Ann 20 d of William Bartlett mason

wit John and Sarah Davis.

Thank you both very much, and particularly to you ciderdrinker as you have found so much out which is looking pretty good. The only reason I had William's wife down as Mary was because that was on the 1841 census. That of course set me off down the wrong track. Rosie99 it looks like the 1851 census where you state William was a widower ties in with ciderdrinker finding a death for Martha in 1849.
