St Francis, Ashton Gate
« on: Wednesday 19 August 15 15:43 BST (UK) »
Is there anyone who can confirm from the marriage details the parents of Mary Ann Baker who married Herbert George Watts on 6 March 1909 at St Francis, Ashton Gate   :P

I've got the date and place from Herbert's service papers.  Mary Ann, I think, appears once as a baby on 1881 Census as a daughter of John and Ann in Cutcombe, Williton, Somerset.  Before I go on a hunt for more census details I'd like to be sure she is the right one.  The family are not entirely accurate on dates and places of birth, combined with a common name  ::)

If I have the correct family Herbert & Mary were at Long Ashton Somerset in 1911, Herbert was a labourer making cider he was born Long Ashton in 1886. Mary states she was born at Timberscome in 1881.
They have a son Stanley age 1 and in 1913 they had a son Victor M, mothers maiden name Baker.

That's the right couple.  Herbert was a champion cider maker and worked at Long Ashton Research Station.  I have a newspaper obituary for him in 1950.  He was director for Gloucestershire Cider Company, eventually taken over by Bulmers

It's his wife, Mary Ann, I can't back track  :(

Ooh, Colin, thanks for that  :D

I've got Robert, I think, in 1901 and 1911 in Timberscombe.  If he was there, his sister should not be too far away to say that she "came" from there in 1911 after marrying Herbert George Watts.  This is assuming that she was a spinster when she married.  The details in the marriage entry are needed to confirm that.

I think her brother, Albert, married as Albert John and ended up a few yards away from where I grew up.  Quite a coincidence since he only became family after a recent marriage

Hi

This might be useful for earlier BAKERS?

Selworthy PR Transcriptions up to 1860. Scroll through - I noticed some Baker's listed.
