I am wondering if the name MUZZELL, MUZZALL and other variants appears.   Any information would be very welcome.

Hi

Have found one 1798 Newtimber

William MUZZALL paying 8 shillings, and was the tenant of George L Newnham Esquire.

There is a burial at Newtimber in 1794 for William Muzzall son of William and one for Elizabeth daughter of William in 1795.    I can see Abel, Thomas and Henry baptising children too so the family are there around that time.  I assume you have those records.

Hi Claire and Sillgen

Thank you both for your kind and helpful replies.

I think William MUZZALL in 1798 is 'my' man.   I knew about the burial for his son William in 1794 but Elizabeth, the daughter is news to me - more digging required!

I think Abel and Henry are William senior's brothers.   I don't know where Thomas fits in, so more digging required there too.

Once again, many thanks.

If you are not a member of the Sussex Family History Group then do join as they have online records for members for c£12 per annum.   Well worth it if you have Sussex ancestors.

Hi Sillgen

Thank you for the suggestion.   It seems like a really good idea so I'll see if I can join online in just a moment.

Hi Sillgen

Thank you very much for your reply regarding the marriage.   Sadly one of my brick walls is that my William's wife was called Martha and I have not been able to identify a marriage for them although I know of four children:

-    Mary, baptised at Hurstpierrepoint on 8th May 1772
-    William, baptised at Newtimber on 9th August 1779
-    James, (my ancestor) baptised at Newtimber on 14th March 1783
-    Thomas, baptised at Newtimber on 17th September 1786
Perhaps this is the Thomas you referred to?   I had assumed the date was earlier...

By the way, I have now joined the society!
