Help proving or disproving a link - Dand family
« on: Monday 31 August 15 14:46 BST (UK) »
Hi
I have an ancestor, Susanna Dand, who married Robert Hunt at All Saints Church, Wigston on 12 June 1796.  She is the mother of my gt x 4 gf William Hunt.  But I can find nothing else about her.
I think she was probably the daughter of Haddon/Hadden Dand, born in Wigston about 1746, and married to Sarah Munday in Wigston in 1770.
This is based on them sharing the same surname (which I think is fairly unusual?) and being in the same village; on the fact that his sister was called Susanna (she died as an infant); and because Haddon's marriage date fits in with what is likely to be Susanna's approximate dob, probably about 1776 give or take a few years.
But while I can find Haddon on various family trees (I know they might not necessarily be accurate, especially as very few have any sources attributed to them) and he clearly had other children, I cannot find anything linking him and Susanna.
I'm wondering if anyone might be able to help?

Hi,
Although Dand seems to be an unusual surname there are 10 females and 8 males married at Wigston between 1754 -1800, so perhaps you need to look at Parish Registers to confirm Susanna's parents

Thanks Bunnygirl.  I was coming to the conclusion that I would need to trawl through the parish records, so am currently trying to order them through Parish Chest.  I know the Records Office has them, but last time I went the microfiche were virtually unreadable, and the photocopies didn't seem to go back far enough (although I didn't ask as I ran out of time!).

Don't know if this helps, have some Wigston refs and Haddon is listed with children being baptised

Anne 7 Nov 1773
Sarah 6 Nov 1775...on my Leicestershire parishes it says burial
Elizabeth 6 Sep 1780
John 16 Aug 1789
and then a burial for a son William 28 Sep 1783 but no baptism

Thanks Willsy.  I am rapidly coming to the concusion that she probably isn't one of Hadden's daughters.  I can't find a record of a baptism anywhere though, even a search through the UK as a whole comes up with next to nothing!  Same with her husband Robert Hunt, it is as if they both appeared from nowhere.

With my Hunts in Birstall too, I think my Edwards parents are James Hunt and Ann Sibson but I need to start looking at the parish records trying to unravel yet, just in case you come across the names!
