Thomas Brown
« on: Tuesday 01 September 15 12:29 BST (UK) »
Hi
    Please can someone check the parish records for a marriage. I do have the CD but can not get to it as we have moved house and i am living on a building site

   Thomas James Brown was born 1894 the son of Thomas Henry Brown(1864) and Elizabeth West.

    I think you may have married one of the following or both

     1915 4/4  Wallingford vol 2c page 989 Eliza Lurker

                          or

    1919 2/4 vol 2c page 1039 Minnie Beesley

     They may have married at Aston Tirrold were his family are living at the time

    Thank you Sandy

Hi Sandy,
I can help with Thomas Henry Brown, fa, bach, groom of Aston Upthorpe s/o Ricahrd, Labr  to
Elizabeth West, fa, sp, of Cholsey, d/o Benjamin, Carter
By Banns, Wits; William Weller, Annie West
married 9-11-1889 A.Up.

I have been unable to find Thomas James Brown's marriage in either the A/Tirrold or A/Up transcripts but did find the burials of the parents (should you not have them);
Thomas Henry Brown 1-4-1922 aged 64
Elizabeth Mary Brown 15-11-1937 aged 69

I did find this marriage for another son;
5-5-1923 William Richard Brown, 23, bach, Labr s/o Thomas Henry coachman, (deceased) to
Mary Alexandra Dix, 21,sp, d/o William, Labr.
By  Banns,  botp
Wits; Thomas Ha. Painton, Gladys May Dix, William Charles Dix
also for a dau.;
2-11-1927 Thomas Anthony Gratton, 27, bach, muscian, Moulsford, s/o Thomas (deceased) to
Bessie Kate Brown, 22, sp, of A/T d/o Thomas Brown (deceased)
wits; Willioam Richard Brow, Ruth Sophia Brown

I also checked the Wallingford transcripts but couldn't find the marriages you refer to.

Looking at the earlier marriage to Eliza Luker, the most likely candidate came from Crowmarsh Oxon, just across the river from Wallingford. perhaps the marriage was in Oxon not Berks.
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

Hi
     Thank you for your help.
        William Richard Brown and Mary Dix are my grandparents. Mary Dix was hard to find but we did mange to do it.  Ruth Sophia Brown married a Alfred Randall a horse trainer

       My aunt who was William and Mary daughter in law keeps saying that one of William brother was a jockey. The above information  i have given i found on FreeReg

       I do know that Thomas and Elizabeth children were Baptist at all 3 churches in Aston Tirrold and Aston upthrope do not know why they used all 3 churches.

    Thank you Sandy

Hi Sandy,

Thanks to a clue from LizzieL.

I have found this marriage in Benson (St.Helen) Oxon just next to Crowmarsh;
23-10-1915 Thomas Brown (x), 36, bach, otp, Labr, s/o James, Carter to
                  Elizabeth Luker (x), 25, sp, otp, d/o Charles, Labr, (dec'd)
wits; Florence Wigmore, James Luker

Hope this help.

Taken from the transcripts from the Oxfordshire FHS on CD OXF-WAL02

That Eliza (beth) is the same one I found - right age and right father and she has a brother james who could be the witness.
But the wrong Thomas. There is a a Thomas living in preston Crowmarsh in 1891 born 1879. father is James. By 1901 both Thomas and his father are carters.

He has a sister Florence who I believe is the one who married James Wigmore in Henley in 1910

So it looks like that marriage is eliminated for the OP's Thomas

Hi LizzieL,

Yes - you are so right. I completely missed the fact the father's name was James whereas
the OP stated Thomas. Plus the age gives a dob of about 1879 so that rules him out.
