Dont know if you have this one either James Crocker 1861 census this is where he met the witness John Powlesland.

I reckon it would most likely be the son born 1850

He was working at an address called Trundlebar, South Tawton and strangely enough this address is right next door to another family of the surname GILLARD like that of his wife to be.

As far as i know we did'nt have this info, we only received the Marraige Cert a few days ago, we were more stunned by who Elizabeths dad was rather than who the witnesses may have been.

One of you asked me if the marriage cert and marriage entry would be the same and I said I had no idea.
 I will look at it for you,(if its there as theres no knowing if it was church or registry is there?) as I am there anyway to meet and help a member of DaF

Wendy - not sure that this James Crocker is our one.  I have found a James Crocker born c1845 which fits closer to the one we are looking for.  He is working on a farm with 2 brothers of his future wife.    A  question springs to mind - would  a witness be only 14 /15 years of age?  Would the son of an employer act as a witness.  (Sorry that is 2 questions)


Debbi - this wedding took place on 3 Nov 1865 at the Parish Church of South Tawton.

Sorry - forgot to mention that there are many John Powlesland's born around the same time as James Crocker in the South Tawton area.  The witness could be any of them
