Kings of Belfast before 1834-36
« on: Wednesday 09 September 15 22:47 BST (UK) »
My GF James Alexander King was born 1900 Belfast to James Alexander King, born 1869 Belfast, and Emily Ellen Mageean, born 1874 Downpatrick, Co. Down.  I have birth and census records.
His father James King was born 1834-36, married Mary Anne Douglas, death 1911 Belfast. JAK and JK in Ireland census  with their occupations as carpenter, shipwrights/smith and other family members listed.
I have not been able to find birth or any records for my 2nd GGF James King.
Also my GF JAK, along with his half-brother Nicholas Cameron, were sent as Home Children to Canada in 1911.
Any help much appreciated.

Welcome to Rootschat  :) You've posted on a resource board which isn't for queries but just click on "report to moderator" and ask for the topic to be moved to the main ANTRIM board.

Registration of births started in Ireland in 1864 so before that date you need to search for church records (which may or may not survive) but you need a location (parish or townland) to start checking for church records (as well as the family's religion).

It sounds as though the 2 King/Cameron boys were what is known as Home Children. There's a new database for these children here on Rootschat and lots of members on CANADA board will also be able to help with information or advice.

Is this Nicholas Cameron, age 14, & James King (Cameron), age 9, in 1911?

I can't find a Nicholas Cameron in 1901 census but I did find a Nicholas Mageean, age 8, in Co, Down -

I sent request to moderator to move my post to Antrim board.
Yes, this is my King ancestor. I do have census and records of GF, 2nd GGF and mostly none of JK. 1834-6.
Thanks for link to BHC. I will post there too.

Topic moved.

If you've already found them in the census records it helps if you post the links so we don't have to search for them. Not sure what this means- I do have census and records of GF, 2nd GGF and mostly none of JK. 1834-6.

where does Nicholas Cameron fit into the King family?

Dundonald Cemetery- address for Mary Ann & James is 138 Earl St. which matches 1901 census posted earlier-
Mary Ann King, age 76, died 31 July 1910
   James King, age 77, died 2 Feb.1911
   Hugh Kilpatrick, age 81, died 8 Nov.1943
   Rosetta Kilpatrick, age 84, died 20 Feb.1958

N Cameron is JAK half- brother. Same mother, Emily Ellen Mageean, different fathers. Both were listed at Belfast Union Workhouse in 1911; then to Liverpool few months later, 1911, emigrating as Home Children to Canada.
I have
