CEYLON thread
« on: Tuesday 12 July 05 15:08 BST (UK) »
I am the webmaster of the Sri Lanka (Ceylon) Genealogy Website and since Ceylon used to be a British Colony from 1815 to 1948 we do have many links in common related to people, places, events and significant genealogical interests.

I would like to create a separate thread for CEYLON on RootsChat and would like some assistance in doing so.

The objective of the thread would be for those having links and interests in Ceylon to be able to exchange views and information on a single thread rather than helter skelter.

Can someone help please

For those searching ancestors in Ceylon. both Europeans, or locals...you may find them listed in  "Fergusons Directories"  at the following website.. where I found my Scottish and Aussie ancestors..

www.historyofceylontea.com

Look for the General Directory...and search each page for what you want...
You need to have a lot of patience, because each directory is PACKED with lots of information  8) 8)
Information about residents and their occupations and addresses...Planters, plantations etc etc..
Some of the earlier Directories include passenger arrivals and departures...Deaths etc..

This is an ongoing website where more and more directories are being scanned and added...
Enjoy... ;D ;D
