For what it's worth, I believe that Henry LEVY (son of Mary LEVY) is most likely to be the soldier who died in 1916 > known as "Harry LEVY" :

NZ Probate Record :

Viewable at >

https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1865481

"Harry LEVY - residence:  Murchison -- Probate Year 1918 "

The record consists mainly of a long-ish letter written by Harry LEVY to friends, whom I believe are probably the DOWNIE family of Murchison.   [Harry LEVY had been in the employ of Charles DOWNIE. ]  It mentions by name "Sarah, Flo, Theresia [sic], Charlie, Frank  ... and 'mum' ".
Sarah, Flo (Florence) and Theresa were all daughters of Sarah Ann and Charles DOWNIE.   "Mum" possibly refers to their mother, Sarah Ann ? .

Harry LEVY - WW1 -  6/3379 - Army

[Note:   In her post No. 6 on your other thread, "jorose" drew attention to the fact that the date of birth (1900) was possibly incorrect, as in a later part of the file, Henry LEVY is described as having the appearance of being "24 years and 9 months" of age.   ]
[Note 2 :  I tend to think that the letter written by Harry LEVY which appears in his Probate
File, is the work of a person born well before 1900. ]

Hi Lu and everyone else!
Thanks for your replies. I have printed everything out and will have to spend some time sorting through all the info.
Will investigate the Maria Annie Levy nee Hedge connection but my Mary Levy was christened Maria Jane.
Re the birth of Henry James Levy in 1896 Mother Mary, father Robert Alexander Levy. I swear I found this in NZBDM's this morning but now I can't find it again.
It's time to clear my head!

Hi
.... you don't need to investigate further "Maria Annie LEVY, nee HEDGE".   She was born in the South Island c. 1872 to Mary, nee DOUGHERTY and James HEDGE.
Maria Annie LEVY, the wife of Ralph LEVY, died at Auckland in 1907.

Her death notice is here >

http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz
"Auckland Star" - 20 February 1907 - page 12 - DEATHS

LEVY ... Anne Maria d/l/w/o Ralph  ... aged 36 years.

Maybe it was this 1896 birth listed under CONNELL

1896/4362 - CONNELL, Alfred Henry - mother: Mary  father: Robert Alexander
