Looking for a

Lionel Broadbent born 1886 Withington

Last found on Census 1901 at Denstone School for boy Staffordshire aged 15
with his 10 year old brother Harold.
I can not find a death certificate or any ref for one. I do have all his brothers and sister but now him.

Any help with finding him would be great. Thanks

There's a Lionel Broadbent on the passenger list of the ship Virginian travelling from Liverpool to Halifax, Nova Scotia on 1 March 1907.

Oh that is wonderful. I will need to go into town to the library and see if I can find out any more. Was he on his own?
Thanks for your help Shaun. It sounds like him.  ;D

Check out the US records too. It appears that he moved to California after some years in Canada.

Born 22 Feb 1886? Parents Thomas and Florence ?

Archives Canada - if you have the details of departure from UK you can check here for disembarkation. Sometimes additional info is added (no guarantee!!) to the record at the other end which can help

www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/immigration/immigration-records/passenger-lists/passenger-lists-1865-1922/Pages/search.aspx

The records aren't indexed - requires scanning each sheet. I think the Virginian arrived 10 March 1907 (record comprises 39 pages)

You can also use this site to check the Canadian Census

I had a look at the records for the Virginian arriving 10 March 1907, Halifax. I couldn't spot a Lionel Broadbent, ticket no. 28743.
On the same page as Lionel, embarking at Liverpool, were (amongst others) R W Wadman (56351), Castles (4545), F Pimblett (18427), Marshall (28124) and Bigham/Bergheim (71124). Managed to find these arriving safely.

No passengers were quarantined but there was 1 death at sea.

Bit of a mystery?

Many Thanks for the information. He must of gone on his own and married Jessie when he got there. I don't know any of the other names. Cheers again.
