I've read through what I can but I've gotten myself totally confused!

Thomas penfold
Born 1842

Henry penfold
Born 1833

Martha penfold
Born 1839

Stephen penfold
Born 1837

Peter penfold
Born 1841

I believe their parents were William/John penfold born 1792
&
Harriet James born unknown

This is where I'm stuck, I can't go in any direction!

Also sophia/soffia orchard
Born 1840/1841
Who were her siblings/parents?

Any help greatly appreciated as I think I might be wrong somewhere

Can you confirm area of the country for the Penfolds/ Orchards please.

I think I can see the Penfold family on the census in Grinstead, East Sussex?

They are Romanies so they went where the work was but yes they were in Sussex now they go from Cornwall, UK to north Carolina, USA. I'm unsure if Thomas's brothers & sisters are actually Henry, Martha, Stephen & Peter or if this is where I've gone wrong & confusing myself. Thanks for helping

Well you've helped me work some out! I was missing some (quite a few) of Thomas's brothers & sisters.

Yes I think William penfold (1792-1872) & Hannah Humphrey (1802-1845) are correct. Now to find more about these two! As well as all their children's families. If you could see how many sheets of paper I have taped together you'd laugh.

Thank you so much for all these little details, they are really filling the blanks & yes very much in Sussex at this point (for the hop picking I believe)

The William Penfold / Hannah Humphrey marriage record states he is a widower and they are both of the parish . Penfold has been transcribed Panfold in the version I have.
