Would marriages in Manchester in 1836 include the parents' names? I am looking at two marriages and looking for the parents of John Boyd to be Samuel Carson Boyd and Mary Lawson.

Collegiate

witness to marriage Thomas Appleton and Thomas Ireland

No - only fathers names are shown on English/Welsh marriage certs and only on marriages from 1.7.1837 when Civil Registration was introduced

Thanks, Carole. So these marriages are too early.

The only thing I can add for you is from the original register entry - John David Boyd & Jane Smith both signed the register - they didn't just make their mark

John Boyd signed his signature but Mary Ann Haggan made her mark

All I know is that John Boyd, son of Samuel Carson Boyd, was living in Manchester in 1838 and emigrated to Canada abt 1843, with a wife. I don't know if either of these marriages is him.  Since he was a school master after emigrating, he did know how to read and write.
Thanks for your help.

Doesn't really sound like either of them.  One was a mechanic and the other a carder so they would have had to go some to become a school teacher
