Looking for information on ancestors who were tailors

Father and son Thomas and Michael Watson were both Tailors.

Thomas was born approx. 1787 I do not know where, Thomas married Mary Pattison in 1814/15 at Skelton ,North Yorkshire. Thomas died aged 36 in 1823 at Brotton, North Yorkshire.

Son Michael was born approx. 1816 in Brotton, also lived in Hartlepool, Durham and Marske, North Yorkshire.

I would be grateful for any information on Thomas's parents and where he was born along with information on both Thomas and Michael's apprenticeships. Thank you

Watson is a fairly common surname so finding where Thomas came from is a tall order.

The Borthwick Institute holds wills for Robert Watson 1829 & William Watson 1832, both of Skelton.  If you have hit a dead end it may be worth ordering them to see if there is any apparent connection and therefore any clues.

Possible marriage Mary Pattison Thomas Watson 18th may 1815 Skelton it says both of that parish married with consent of parents but doesn't name them

Looking at the image - the majority of marriages at Skelton, by Banns, at this time state "with consent of parents"

Bumble can i just ask it states in the Prefence of what does that mean? Is it just another way to say witnesses?

Hi Lisa,

The wording is actually "In the Presence of".  It's an old long "s" in (I'm guessing) printed form.

If you examine it closely, you should see that the short horizontal crossing line extends to the left of the letter's downstroke but not to the right.  That tells you it's not an "f".

Yes, it means that the names of the witnesses (required after Hardwicke's Marriage Act of 1753) follow.
