Haiste Yard Hunslet - where was it?
« on: Saturday 10 October 15 14:00 BST (UK) »
Hi all

I wondered if anybody with any knowledge of this area or has old maps would be able to pinpoint this place for me.  I have relatives who lived there during about 1850-1890 the Pullans. I cannot seem to work out where it is though.
Thanks for anyhelp

Bestwishes

I have the 1890 Ordnance Survey Map of Leeds here.
Before I start looking do you know Leeds/Hunslet area at all?
[Map is on disc so hope the area is indexed.]

In Hunslet they built what they called 'The District Centre' on Church Street.
(St Mary's church being opposite)
The main road out of Leeds being Hunslet Road changes to Low Road @half mile before getting to signpost directing to District Centre.
Haiste Yard was at this T junction of Low Road/Church Street.
As you would imagine the area has been completely bulldozed flat prior to redevelopment.

To give you a flavour of the area have a look on Leodis website, entering Hunslet into search.

Wow thank you so much Brian - I have tried so hard to get a photo of the area at that time so I may have to revert to finding a photo of it nowadays. I am going to try and look on some maps now. Thank you so much for your help. Best regards
