Edward George Howorth Armitage born 1895 in Herts. When and where did he die?

Edward George Howorth Armitage was born in 1895 in Hertfordshire. We know he fought in WWI and sustained injuries and then went into the church.

We have little information about him; strange as he was an Archdeacon or Canon in later life. He celebrated the 50th Anniversary of his ordination on 22nd July 1973 (I don't know where).

Family stories are that he died in 1979 and was perhaps "affiliated to a Monastery in North Yorkshire - possibly at The Church of St John of God, Scorton, Yorkshire." Also "He was quite wealthy, we belive and may have left everything to the Roman Catholic Church!"

Any information about his career and/or death will be much appreciated.

as I've discovered, a bit of caution is needed as his father had the same name, minus the George. I have found two London electoral register records for EGH Armitage (using full name) for 1936 & 1937 in the Catholic Presbytery in Hendon.

There are also a series of telephone book entries for EGH Armitage (using intials) from 1958 to
title rev and address Presbytery, St Raphael's Colony, Barvin Park, Potters Bar

a warning - there are a couple of rather speculative trees on Ancestry which suggest heemigrated in the US in 1924, married and died there in 1961!

I made the same mistake - confusing EGH Armitage with Edward Harry Armitage who went to live in Ohio in the absence of much info about EGH Armitage.

Another Ancestry member "put me right", but we have little about him in his later years.

He doesn't even appear in The Tablet that often - here is a brief mention in relation to a school established in his London parish in the 1930s

A further bit of googling and Ancestry locate him as the parish priest in Wheathampstead between 1939 & 1946

Thanks. I did try googling and searching on Ancestry, but it seems he was reclusive and he is not referred to as Edward George Howorth Armitage.
