Paviour/Faviour - Newington/Southwark -1800s - Help!
« on: Sunday 25 October 15 17:22 GMT (UK) »
Once again, it is one of my direct lines that is causing me the most trouble...!  ::)  I've been trying to make a breakthrough with these guys for years and it's still not forthcoming!

Samuel Paviour (c.1819, Southwark) was my 3xGt Grandfather.  He married Ann ?, sometime before 1840.  I have found them in 1851 and 1861, but they are otherwise elusive.  They had the following children:

Betsey c.1840, Southwark
Mary Ann c.1842, Southwark (I know about her and her marriage, etc.)
Samuel c.1845, Southwark
Caroline 1851-1936 (my 2xGt Grandmother - She married Thomas Sparrowhawk)
Ann 06/10/1853 (bap. 30/10/1853), Newington
Joseph 22/08/1855 (bap. 16/09/1855), Newington
Louisa 20/02/1856 (bap. 19/10/1856), Newington
Henry 06/06/1859 (bap. 03/07/1859), Newington
William 06/06/1859 (bap. 03/07/1859), Newington

As with every name, there is room for errors, but the possibilities are endless...Paviour, Pavior, Pavor, Faviour, Favior, Favor, Panier, Pavier, Paver...you get the idea.  I've lost count of the amount of hours I've trawled the internet, looking for anything to expand on.  Can anyone help?

Many thanks,

Regards, Emma  ;)

Emma,
If you have found Samuel and Ann in the 1851 & 1861 census give us some details, like ages and places of birth. The census piece details would also be helpful.
Peter
Allen, Brown, West - Berkshire
Caesar, Dicker, Lamden, West - Hampshire
Hicks, Martin, Masters - Kent, Middlesex
Hancox/Hancock/Hancocke - Warwickshire
Gardner - Devon

For others who may be searching: in 1861 FindMyPast has the surname as Paviour, Ancestry has it as Pavsor, and The Genealogist has it as Parson. Samuel (45) is a twine maker at 3 Rope Walk, Newington. Ann is shown as aged 40. All born Newington.

Hi,

Not a clue!  I have this family unit - I stem from Caroline - and that is it.  It's been a very gradual process to gather this much together as they are so hard to find, what with alternate spellings and mistranscriptions.  I've spent many Sunday afternoons getting frustrated with this lot! :D
