Ernest BLACHFORD (b 1888 S Stoneham RD)

Still chasing BLACHFORDs (+ other spellings*)

I have been unable to find anything more about Ernest BLACHFORD other than his birth registration in 1888 and a guest appearance in the 1901 census.  He was the youngest son of Alfred Ernest BLACHFORD and Ann (nee HOLLOWAY) and the only one of the children I don't have anything further on.

Alfred died in St James Hospital, Portsmouth (previously the Kingston Lunatic Asylum), I suspect CoD was GPI (syphilis).  I've not been able to find Ernest, his mother or his baby sister, Hilda, in the 1911 census but I do know what happened to Hilda

If anyone has a moment to have a quick look for Ernest post 1901, I'd appreciate it. If he's been beamed up, I'll wait until he gets beamed down again

There is an Ernest Blachford showing, born 1887, enumerated in "Overseas Military, Ships and Overseas Establishments", but you need to look it up yourself to see if he is your Ernest.

Ernest Blatchford born 2nd Aug 1888 Southampton
From these records (one includes photo) looked like he possibly worked at sea until at least 1938.
No firm evidence he is your Ernest unfortunately.

There is an Ernest Blachford showing, born 1887, enumerated in "Overseas Military, Ships and Overseas Establishments", but you need to look it up yourself to see if he is your Ernest.

From these records (one includes photo) looked like he possibly worked at sea until at least 1938.
No firm evidence he is your Ernest unfortunately.

The DoB fits with what I have (Q3 1888).  If it is my Ernest, that would probably account for why I haven't been able to find anything about him.

I think this Ernest was Ernest Sydney who was KIA 29 July 1917 serving with the Canadian Light Horse.  He was the son of Augustus Arthur and Rebecca (nee DOWN/S), one of two they lost.  They lived Rushington Lane.

Augustus was the younger brother of Alfred Ernest, the latter being the father of the Ernest I'm playing hide and seek with.  There were no naming patterns in use, just a habit of recycling names

I hadn't found this Ernest's emigration. It's a useful additional piece of information for which many thanks

Hi,

The 1891 and 1901 census show that Ernest was born in Freemantle, Hampshire. I think if you look up Ernest BLACKFORD in the 1911 census you might find him boarding in Southampton, Hilda is also living at the same address


At this time he was a Registrar's Clerk (College Office), working here,
