Hi, looking at the censuses of 1841-1861, there is a Duncan & Elizabeth living in Glasgow during this time. Your Mary is not listed as living with them in the 1851 nor 1861 census. That may be just because Mary wasn't home at the time. They are the only Duncan & Elizabeth in Glasgow or Lanark. Duncan is not listed as a tinsmith. I have looked at death records and for the Duncan in Glasgow his wife is listed as Elizabeth Baird. His sister is the informant so I'm thinking the info is probably correct. I then checked deaths from 1832-1900 in Scotland for Elizabeth McLachlan nee Fox and there was none. Nor a marriage. What I'm thinking is that either a mistranscription took place on her marriage cert or possibly Duncan died and Elizabeth remarried. There are the deaths of 3 Duncan McLachlans in Glasgow - 1833,1836 & 1847. So, if Elizabeth did remarry she did so before 1858, although from 1833-1854 there is no record of an Elizabeth McLachlan marrying anyone with the name Fox. I think her name was wrong. Is there a possibility that Elizabeth &/or Duncan could have emigrated to Australia as well? It may be worth checking as they may have followed Mary over. I found Mary's record of her arrival in Geelong, Australia on 19 August 1857 on the ship Echunga from Liverpool. She is listed by herself. I would suggest to try and see if the parents may have gone over to Australia. If not, it might be an idea if you know who any of her siblings are to try and trace the family through them to find the parents to see if they match up or if Fox name was a mistake. Kim
