Tirdeunaw/Llangyfelach(Swansea).
« on: Thursday 14 July 05 17:10 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the location of the house my grandfather, Thomas Morris Beor lived in when he married my grandmother, Sarah Jane Jones,in 1909. It was no. 2 Cwm Veiw Terrace, Tirdeunaw, Clase Rural. I have tried the County Archives Office but to no avail. They did think however that it may have been swallowed up during the re-organisation and numbering of Llangyfelach Rd. Any ideas anyone?

Thank you

Mel

Hi Mel,

This might be a bit of a longshot... ;)

but if you follow this link to Local Councillor's for the area that you are searching for on:

http://www.swansea.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=1850&articleaction=print

There is one lady who lives in Tirdeunaw, Llangyfelach Road, - who might know more about your Grandfather's property.

Btw, my Grandparents, William James & Margaret Wilson, (née Rees) lived at "Y Plas", 177 Llangyfelach Road from 1918 to 1932, but I think that the house numbers have all changed now.

Let me know how you get on!

Best Wishes, Romilly.

Hi Romilly,

Thank you again! I will try that a little later. By the way, didn't Y Plas become an Old People's home or am I thinking of another place? Chat to you soon.

Best wishes

Mel.

Hi Mel,

Yes, there is a Care Home called "Y Plas" in Llangyfelach Road, - but I'm not sure if its the same house.

On my Uncle Archie's Death Cert, (in 1930) the House Number is 177..."Y Plas"  & the Care Home's number is 619 Llangyfelach Road...

Mind you, - I'm sure that there must have been a lot more housing built there since 1930...& I gather that the house numbers have all changed too.

I'm hoping to visit Swansea, (for the first time) later this year, & am hoping to visit Llangyfelach Road, & other places where my rellies lived.

Best Wishes, Romilly.

Hi Romily,

Sorry, it was a carehome/nursing home. A Beatrice Harris, who I believe was a cousin of mind, stayed there. I am also going there in the Summer, and hope to tie in a visit to County hall (and to move my Daughter from Halls of residence at the Uni). So may try and use your previous information then, if I can't obtain it over the net now.

Take care and best wishes.

Hi my family are from this area and I was brought up there. The place has changed a lot. Cwm View may be near Cwmgelli (Cwmgelly) Cemetery which is now located near to the visteon (ford's) club on Llangyfelach Road, or on Llangyfelach Road over looking where Cwm Park is now

Also going down near to Y Plas nursing home the area was know locally as Lisbon in Treboeth. There is an old 1886 map available free online via www.old-map.co.uk (search for Tirdeunaw)

Thank you Mynydd,

My family lived in Cwmgelli Rd. for many years (before it was a real road)
Where is Cwm Park then?, is it a park, or is it that estate they've built over the nant? I will have to walk the area in the summer, perhaps the name is still on an old house!

Best wishes

Diolch

Hi Mynydd,

Many thanks for the Map!

I'm hoping to visit all of these places when I visit Swansea in May.

Cheers, Romilly.
