Alex Laird Pawnbroker/Jeweller
« on: Friday 13 November 15 13:58 GMT (UK) »
Hello

My great grandfather was a sea farer until his wife died in 1906 leaving him with 3 young children, his licence for pawnbroking is at woodhorn, I believe, although I have not yet seen it.

Does anybody have any recollection of his shop in Blyth, know what it was called etc

Thanks very much

Helen
Regards

Helen

He died in 1923 - did either of his sons take over the business?

Hi Helen

There's a lot of rootschatters on this board who like nothing better than to get into discussions about Blyth

If you add Blyth to your subject line I bet they'll come flocking  ;D

Hi Helen,
Kelly's 1916 Directory of Northumberland has "Laird Alex. & Co. pawnbrokers" at 6 Bowes St, Waterloo, Blyth. Link here (select page 97 from the right-hand menu):

This post is old and you may already have this, but I was browsing old papers looking for information about my husband's family and came across this ad.

I've run another search and found these other two from 1939

I am happy to admit that I have been looking for interesting old ads all day. I hope seeing these brightens your day!
