The Marriage of Henry Vincent/Alison Polson
« on: Tuesday 17 November 15 12:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi All rootschatters,

Is it possible for someone to lookup, or find a Marriage Notice, in one of the Tasmanian papers,  of my Great Grandfather, Henry Vincent, who married an Alison Polson.

They married on the 26th July 1875, at the home of an Alfred Boatright, in Burnie Tasmania

I am hoping to find the parents of Henry, who I have asked about in previous posts. I have his Marriage Certificate, but it does not show the names of his parents. I am hoping there may have been a notice of some sort which could help. His Death Certificate is the same no names.

Trust someone can help,

Regards

George

Hi i couldn't search the papers but a tree on Ance has the pair and they have the parents of Henry Vincent as James Tomer Vincent 1796 - 1871 Sarah Charlotte Beazley 1812 - 1856

They have him down as
Henry Vincent
Birth 1846 in Launceston, Tasmania
Death 22 Feb 1926 in Wynyard, Tasmania, Australia

But have a birth record saying
Frederick Henry Vincent
Birth Date:   25 Dec 1846
Father's name:   James Vincent
Mother's name:   Sarah Vincent

The father seems to have been transported from england

Hi Lisa & Rosball,

Have checked all those avenues, with little success.

The only light I have achieved is a, [possibility],  that a William Vincent & Maria Hayes had a child named Henry. Henry's name appears on some of his siblings Birth Certificates. William & Maria left Tassie to go and make their fortune on the 'Gold fields' in Ballarat & Castlemaine.
Supposedly, Henry died in Victoria circa 1860's. He was declared as dead in 1864, on his sister' [Emily],Birth Certificate. [No Death record either in Victoria or Tassie].
William was good at advising the Government, of his children being born, and those that had died.

On Maria's Death Certificate it has a 'Henry' being one of the witnesses to his Mother's death.
All living children were listed on that Certificate, in the far right of the column, there was no mention of Henry.

I have contacted the Castlemaine F.H.S. who hae spent a fair bit of time on this request, all to no avail.
I have drawn the theory that Henry does/did not want to be found.

Thanks everyone for your help.

George

Hi George,
I don't understand ... on the obit of the Henry VINCENT who died in Burnie in 1926 it says quite clearly that he married Alison POLSON.

Some obits for Alison VINCENT who died in 1937 in Burnie
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article68440329http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article68440528

Death notice which makes clear she was a POLSON http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article68440296

Birth Date:   25 Dec 1846

This is a baptism not a birth registration.

Baptism
VINCENT Frederick Henry
Father James Mother Sarah
25 Dec 1846
At Launceston  2142/1847

His age when he married indicates a birth of c1850 however was he being honest with his age as he was marrying a 19 year old and if he was baptised 1846 his age was more likely to be c29 years. :-X :-X

POLSON Alison 19 years
VINCENT Henry 25 years
26 Jul 1875
At Emu Bay  63/1875

I noticed that Henry and Alison named one of their 15 children, Frederick Allan.

I can't access many websites at the moment so leave you search for a possible convict James POLSON

Why are you dismissing the possibility that Henry was actually baptised Frederick Henry but may have chosen to use only his second given name?

His Death Certificate is the same no names.

George

It should have a place of birth if the informant knew that information.  Does it agree with the obit and say Hobart?
