AMES - Great Yarmouth Workhouse Lookup
« on: Monday 23 November 15 23:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm trying to find out what happened to Henry AMES born 1819, London, he is mentioned in the 1881 census as an inmate of the Great Yarmouth Workhouse, his original occupation was Soda Water Manufacturer.

I don't know what happened to him after that date.

Regards
Paul

Have you already discounted the 1889 death for Henry Amis in Norfolk on freebmd?

Hi CaroleW,

I didn't see that one, and there was family in Norwich, I wonder if there is a burial record.
Shame it doesn't mention a church, as there are a few in Norwich.

Freebmd is just a transcription of the full GRO index and only shows sufficient info to buy a copy cert from the GRO

The Norwich RD covered quite a large area as you can see from the link below but the 1881 has no other entries for a Henry Ames/Amis so I am pretty confident it's the right death

Unless some burial transcriptions exist - you will need to buy a copy to get his exact death date and place of death to trace a burial

Thanks for your help, I'll look at getting the death certificate to see if it's the right one.
