WW1 medals
« on: Friday 15 July 05 03:09 BST (UK) »
I think I have just found my great grandfather listed on the national archives medal search. I do know that he was in WW1, I have a photo of him and his name is listed on the list in the church at Burton Agnes, Yks.

My question is what would I get if I sent in the money for his medal card? This is the information it list.

John A. Thompson
Corps: East Yorkshire Regiment
Regiment No.  25333
Rank   Private
Catalogue No. WO 372/20

Does this mean he was given a medal??

Thanks for answering my questions.

Regards
Anne

I don't know if you would be more successful than me, but I sent for one and didn't receive anything more than what you have listed.

I was hoping to get some form of confirmation (i.e. birth date etc.) that would confirm it was the right one

Sometimes they will write on the medal card what medal he actually got or where they were posted when the medal was received

Hi Judy:
Thanks for the reply. Sounds like I should not bother sending for the information as I know about and who his parents are. Maybe I should just wait till they have the WW1 papers microfilmed. Last time Iwas at Salt Lake city they had not got to the "T"s yet.

Thanks
Anne
