It seems that the Royal Hotel in Cleethorpes Road was demolished in the 60s. I thought that what is now the Humber Royal in Littlecoates Road was formerly called the Royal, but I`m not absolutely sure.
There is quite a lot of information about it on the internet, including photos.

Are you aware that in August 1877 there was a riot at the Royal Hotel in Grimsby. Many of the hotel's windows were broken, troops were called in to restore order-the manager at the time was a R. J. Tonge. See this article: http://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/BYGONES-Battle-raged-Royal/story-13083508-detail/story.html

The Royal Hotel was near to the Docks it was knocked down before  a new flyover was built.  The Humber Royal is a different hotel altogether  :)
You can find quite a few photos of the Royal Hotel on line, if you're on facebook there's a page called Grimsby and Cleethorpes History Club which has loads of old photos of Grimsby & Cleethorpes

I visited the North Lincs Archives today.  Unfortunately, they do not hold staff records.
