Where does his DOB come from? The only one registered in Luton between 1873 and 1877 is this one, which is probably the one on the 1881 census.

The 1911 census, to which the OP was directed recently, gives his age as 34, so the 1881 census looks the right family.

In 1901 at 18 Albert Road Luton is widower Peter Gurney with children James & Sarah plus visitor Minnie Wilding age 20 born Luton.... could this be William's wife to be?
