mary ann franklin born
« on: Thursday 03 December 15 19:20 GMT (UK) »
in my search for my elusive denigan family i have come across many mentions of boarding houses. i was recently told that mary ann franklin nee denigan i am looking for information on owned a boarding house in bournemouth. her husband had TB and was interred at a hospital in ringwood hants, and before he died he brought his wife a house so she could run a boarding house. in the hope of setting her up and keeping her straight. (it didnt work!) i heard some stories that the house was bombed during ww2 and she then moved to blackpool where her brother lived. i would love to know where in bournemouth the house was. my family are very familiar with Bournemouth and knew of a boarding house on ashley rd. however this one is a new one i think.
i have checked the 1939 registar (preview) and she is in bournemouth and not living with the dennigans who owned the other boarding house.
does anyone have access to the electrol rolls and could find her please. she was born around 1904.
many thanks

Electoral Rolls are only searchable by address - not name

What year did her husband die?

hi sorry its taken me a while to reply. i didnt realise you could only search the electrol roll with address not name. ive learnt something new today now  :)

that is the death of her husband yes. however in the 1939 registar he is in ringwood which would match with the family story of him being interred there for TB he sadly died there in 1941. all i know is from stories from a very close family friend who must be in her 90's now that mary ann's husband brought her a boarding house in bournemouth so that she could be secure and settle down. this didnt happen and she ended up running off to blackpool. mary anns mother and father also ran a boarding house in bournemotuh on ashley rd. i would love to know where mary anns boarding house was though

If an electoral register is online on Ancestry or FindMyPast then it is possible to search by name. If the register is held locally then places are divided in to 'polling areas' and listed by street name then house number  :)
