Hoylake Burial
« on: Saturday 05 December 15 13:21 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I am trying to locate 4 burials that occurred at Hoylake between 1886 and 1887.  I thought they would be located at Holy Trinity, Hoylake but Chester RO advised they do not have their records.  Would any kind person be able to throw any light on them please?

Dr John Maule Sutton died 20 Jan 1886 Hoylake (age 56)
Daughter of above Charlotte Ada Maria Maule Knapp (nee Sutton) buried Hoose 22 Apr 1886 (age 30)
Son of CAMM Knapp - John Maule Sutton Knapp buried Hoose 1 Oct 1886 (age 1)
Wife of John Maule Sutton - Maria Frances Sutton died 24 Dec 1887 Hoylake

Thanks in advance for any help.

Best wishes
Lyn Willcox

Googling Holy Trinity it appears that Chester RO should have them? Failing that you could try http://www.fhsc.org.uk/

Of course the church is long gone but the burial site is still there. I photographed war graves there a few years back.

Hi

Hoylake Holy Trinity burial registers are indexed on Familysearch and images are on Findmypast. Charlotte Knapp and her son are both buried at Holy Trinity but her parents don't appear to be.

Hi Lyn

If you PM me your email address I will send you a newspaper article about John Maule Sutton from just a few months before his death which may help explain why there doesn't appear to be any publicity about his death or burial. Given his life history you would have expected some information when he died. His address in the article is Manchester, what address is given on his death certificate? His death was registered in the Woodchurch (Wirral) sub district but I'm not sure what that covered.

It might be worth checking Flaybrick Hill (Birkenhead) Cemetery, unfortunately these records are not online

Thank you all that have taken the time to look into this for me.

Andy - I do actually have the newspaper article you mentioned regarding John Maule Sutton which makes interesting reading.  Although the address is in Manchester it would appear he went to live in Hoylake a couple of years prior to this, so may have had two houses.  This information was obtained from a bio on him given by the President of the Royal Medical and Chirurgical Society of London a few weeks after his death. In it is made mention of the cause of his death - heart disease with dropsy.

I have the probate record for JMS's wife, Maria Frances, and the address given is 4 Chester Buildings, Hoylake (which is Market Street) and as she died the year after JMS I can only presume that was where he died too - alas no probate record for him.

I will look into Flaybrick Hill Cemetery and fhsc as suggested.

Thanks again
Lyn
